The project is estimated to cost about 450 million zlotys (approximately $113 million).
The system will include poles equipped with round-the-clock surveillance cameras, including both daylight and thermal imaging devices, to monitor the border area continuously. Underground infrastructure will feature seismic detection cables, fiber-optic lines for data transmission, and power cables.
All data collected by the system will be transmitted to a central monitoring hub at a Polish Border Guard command center, where personnel will analyze the information in real time.
The decision to build the electronic barrier was made “in connection with the growing threat posed by Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine.” Polish authorities say the system is intended to curb illegal border crossings and improve the detection and response to potential security threats along the frontier.
