How can water tariffs increase from April 1

Tariffs for cold water suppliers in Kyiv and other cities of Ukraine are scheduled to be increased in April.

According to the new project of the National Energy and Utilities Regulatory Commission (NEURC), the increase in water tariffs is planned in two stages -– from April 1 and July 1. In particular, there are plans to raise the water tariff in Kyiv from April 1 to 40.776 hryvnias ($1.05) per cubic meter. That is, in the spring, residents of the capital can expect a 34% increase from the current 30,384 hryvnias ($0.78) per cubic meter.

Dnipro residents currently consume water at a rate of 31.36 hryvnias ($0.81) per cubic meter. Accordingly, from April 1, it is proposed to raise the tariff to 37.61 hryvnias ($0.91) per cubic meter. In Vinnytsia, consumers whose water costs today are 25.62 hryvnias ($0.66) per cubic meter will be offered to pay 35 hryvnias ($0.90) per cubic meter starting in April.

However, the decision to increase water tariffs has not yet been made. It should be considered in the near future.

The tariffs for the services of 34 water utility companies were to increase by an average of 32% in July 2023, however, the rise was eventually canceled.

What will happen to other tariffs in April

Until the end of the heating season (until mid-April) Ukraine does not plan to increase the majority of utility tariffs for household consumers. In particular, prices for gas, heating and hot water for citizens will remain unchanged.

Ukrainians will continue to pay 2.64 hryvnias ($0.07) per kWh for electricity in April 2024.

The price of gas for household consumers who use the services of Naftogaz will remain at the level of 7.96 hryvnias ($0.21) per cubic meter. The gas prices of the remaining suppliers will range from 7.70 hryvnias ($0.20) to 9.90 hryvnias ($0.26) per cubic meter.
