Key trends in military technology development include laser weapons, robotics, and digital integration, Maria Berlinska, head of the Ukrainian Center for Aerial Reconnaissance, said during an NV event "Ukraine Changes the World: Dialogues on Opportunities" on Feb. 19.

"Definitely, if you look toward Miltech, consider laser and electromagnetic weapons, and think about ground-based robotic systems—they are currently yielding increasingly important and tangible results,” said the military expert.

“Undoubtedly, we need to talk about battle management systems, software solutions that allow for the integration of various systems into a comprehensive story of battle management, situational awareness, and more."

She noted that while some of these systems already exist, many require enhancement and interoperability with other systems.

"We need to look towards maximum digitization of ourselves because, under constrained resources, the only way to use these resources rationally is to rely on big data as big data doesn't lie,” said the head of the Ukrainian Center for Aerial Reconnaissance.

“To have this data, we must digitize our tactical and technical characteristics (TTCs). Each of us here is, to some extent, a robot with our own TTCs that must be applied correctly. Often, our biggest failures occur because the wrong people are handling the wrong tasks."

Many technologies have already been invented, and Ukraine, for example, could have faced the enemy with FPV drones as early as 2022, Berlinska added.

"Radar stations and fiber optics have long existed—this is far from their first application," she said, emphasizing that innovation involves new applications of known technologies.
