Almost half of Ukrainians expect war to end no earlier than 2027

31% of respondents believe the war in Ukraine will end by the end of 2026. Another 10% expect it to conclude in the first half of 2027, while 38% anticipate the end in the second half of 2027 or later.

Thus, Ukrainians mostly believe that the war will continue for a prolonged period, KIIS notes.

Sociologists also recorded a decrease in the share of people willing to endure the war for as long as necessary. Currently, about 48% hold this view, down from 54% at the beginning of March.

29% of respondents are not prepared to tolerate the war for a long time — up to six months. However, even among them, a significant portion (44%) categorically rejects unacceptable peace conditions, such as trading Donbas for security guarantees from the United States and Europe.

The Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) conducted the survey from April 20 to 27. Using telephone interviews, 1,005 respondents were polled across all regions of Ukraine. Under normal circumstances, the statistical margin of error for this sample does not exceed 1.8–4.1%.
