Australian General discusses future of Russia's war against Ukraine in 2025

Ryan said that if Ukraine manages to negotiate a diplomatic agreement for Russia to leave all its territory, “it would be an awesome result.”

However, the Australian general stated that the Russians and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin are not going to do this.

"Putin still wants to take over the whole of Ukraine," Ryan concluded.

"He is not going to give up. Therefore, it is simply wrong to think that negotiations are a satisfactory solution for Ukraine at this time. So, unfortunately, Ukraine will have to continue to fight to push Russia out of its territory in eastern and southern Ukraine, including Crimea."

Possibility of Ukraine-Russia negotiations

In early July, historian and professor at the Ukrainian Catholic University Yaroslav Hrytsak suggested in an interview with Radio NV that Russia's war against Ukraine may be nearing an end, as the “big players” in the world want it to stop.

"Nowadays, there are more and more scenarios for the end of the war that involve Ukraine losing territories," he said.

"And the very emergence of so many scenarios suggests that perhaps the war is coming to an end, because there is an interest from the big players to end it."

The historian added that the key question is whether Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is interested in ending the war, and there is no answer to this question yet.

At the end of June, Valeriy Chaly, chairman of the board of the Ukrainian Crisis Media Center and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the United States from 2015-2019, said in an interview with Radio NV that Russia's war against Ukraine could be stopped by Ukraine's partners raising the stakes, which would outstrip the Kremlin.

According to him, such a raising of the stakes could involve the entry into the war on a bilateral basis of countries that are interested in seeing the war end in victory on the territory of Ukraine, rather than on their own soil.
