Why was it changed?
Since Christmas is one of the biggest holidays of the year and falls on a Monday, it would normally be a day off under usual circumstances. How-ever, active martial law considerably limits the number of bank holidays. This provision is stated in the Law that amends Article 73 of the Labor Code.
Following the imposition of martial law, the Ukrainian parliament implemented changes to Ukraine’s labor legislation that canceled all public holidays, including state holidays that previously would provide employees with a day off.
Thus, Dec. 25. will be a working day for employees who work on a five-day schedule.
On the other hand, Jan.7, 2024, falls on a Sunday. Therefore, although this day is not an official state holiday, it remains a day off.
