The Yahodyn international border crossing in Ukraine’s Volyn Oblast remains open and is functioning normally after a Russian attack, State Border Guard Service spokesperson Andrii Demchenko said on Sept. 13.

Speaking to RBC-Ukraine, Demchenko said Russian forces did not directly hit the Yahodyn checkpoint itself, which is why its operations were not suspended.

“The Yahodyn checkpoint is currently operating as normal,” he said.

At the same time, the border agency warned that Russian attacks in the region are intensifying and that the crossing’s operation could be halted if the security situation requires it.

Public broadcaster Suspilne reported that two drivers were injured in the drone strike. Photos from the scene showed burned-out weighing trucks parked near a gas station. A local supermarket was also damaged.

Earlier, Volyn customs spokeswoman Valentyna Chernysh said a Russian attack had damaged a gas station near the Yahodyn crossing on the border with Poland. Debris from the strike set the station buildings and several trucks on fire.

According to her, all border operations were suspended during the air raid alert, and people were in shelters.

On Sept. 13, a video appeared online showing a fire that broke out after a Russian strike on the gas station near the Polish border crossing at Yahodyn.

Also on the Ukrainian-Polish border, a Russian drone hit the locomotive of a train traveling from Kyiv to Warsaw.

Ukrainian Railways said Russia had attacked the railway for the second consecutive day. The company noted that on Sept. 13, the aggressor struck the locomotive of a passenger train two kilometers from the Polish border.

Passengers and the train crew were not injured.

Earlier on Sept. 13, Russian drones attacked western regions of Ukraine. In the city of Ivano-Frankivsk, a multi-story residential building and an industrial facility were damaged, and one person was injured.

Damage was also reported in the town of Stryi in Lviv Oblast and in Ternopil.
