The Ukrainian prosecutors presented evidence that on Feb. 23, 2014, Yanukovych, tegether with the former head of the Security Service and representatives from Russia, illegally crossed the border. They organized the transportation of at least 20 people from Yanukovych's inner circle and military personnel of the State Protection Department (UDO), using Russian military helicopters to fly them to a Russian military airfield in Yeysk, and then eventually to the Hvardiyske airfield in Crimea.
In the city of Sevastopol, Yanukovych incited the parole officers guarding him to desert. As a result, some of the state security officers left Sevastopol for Russia by sea with the expelled president.
The trial found that Yanukovych coordinated this movement with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and that the route was planned and controlled by the FSB and the Russian military.
The former deputy head of the Ukrainian penitentiary service, Kostyantyn Kobzar, was also sentenced in absentia to 10 years in prison for organizing the illegal transfer of persons across the state border of Ukraine and desertion (Part 2 of Article 332, Part 2 of Article 408 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
Yanukovych was previously sentenced to 13 years in prison for high treason and aiding Russian aggression against Ukraine.
It is reported that Yanukovych is currently living in the village of Barvikha in the suburbs of Moscow.
