Russian troops deployed around Zaporizhzhya Oblast have not
launched any assaults on Ukrainian positions for three days in a row, Operational
Command South spokesperson Dmytro Lykhovyi told Ukrainian TV broadcasters on
Aug. 20.
According to Lykhovyi, this lull is notable because the frontline in the area is long and "the Russians have not gone anywhere."
He added that Ukrainian forces are monitoring the situation, as such behavior by the Russian troops is “unusual.”
“There is certain activity, if I can call it that, in the Prydniprovskyi direction, where the enemy continues to try to push our units from their positions on the left bank of the Dnipro River,” said Lykhovyi.
“However, yesterday there was only one enemy assault on our units' positions near the village of Krynky.”
The spokesperson also noted that he would not necessarily associate this anomaly with Ukraine’s ongoing operation in Kursk Oblast, as some analysts suggested previously.
