Piers Morgan asked Volodymyr Zelenskyy whether he would give such an order to security services if he had the opportunity. The president responded indirectly, stressing that in Russia’s system, replacing one person does not necessarily mean changing the nature of the regime itself.
“You know, in their system I’m not sure that another person wouldn’t become the same Putin. The same as Putin. That’s not the point,” Zelenskyy said.
The head of state also said he cannot support the idea of conceding the Donbas to Russia and expressed doubt that Ukrainians would agree to such a step even under the most difficult circumstances. According to the president, the issue is not only about territory, but about people, identity, values and freedom, as well as the country’s defense strategy.
Separately, Zelenskyy said there have been numerous attempts on his life during the war, some of which were thwarted by Ukrainian security services. He noted that he is aware a successful assassination attempt during wartime could create risks of internal destabilization, which is why the state must maintain resilience across all critical sectors — from defense and manufacturing to energy, water supply, the banking system and cyber defense.
