Zelenskyy made the remarks during a visit to Denmark on July 3, as Copenhagen is assuming the Presidency of the European Council on July 4.
“As long as Russia can buy parts and equipment for weapons, it will continue to kill,” said the president.
“That’s why we must stop any supplies to Russia of anything used—or usable—in making weapons. It is high time we created an effective international platform to control dual-use exports.”
Zelenskyy noted that the initiative could be a key achievement during Denmark’s six-months-long presidency.
On June 26, the European Council failed to approve the 18th sanctions package against Russia, reportedly due to Slovakia’s veto. Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico stated he requested a postponement of the vote.
The proposed package included a ban on transactions related to the Nord Stream pipelines, a reduction of the price cap on Russian oil from $60 to $45 per barrel, and a prohibition on the export of dual-use technologies and goods.
