“Congratulations to President Donald Trump and the American people on the inauguration!” Zelenskyy said in a Twitter post.
“This is a day of change and hope for addressing numerous issues, including global challenges.”
Zelenskyy praised Trump's determination, noting that the U.S. president's declared policy of “peace through strength” offers a chance for Washington to lead a push for a reliable and just peace in Ukraine.
The Ukrainian president added that the 21st century's path is being decided now and that it is crucial to work together to ensure it is successful for democracies, "not for those who wish us all failure."
“We look forward to active and mutually beneficial cooperation,” said Zelenskyy.
“Together we are stronger and can provide the world and our nations with more security, stability, and economic growth.”
On Jan. 20, Donald Trump took the oath of office and officially became the 47th president of the United States.
