Despite the three-day ceasefire announced
by U.S. President Donald Trump, clashes between Ukrainian and Russian troops
continued along the frontline on May 11, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in
his evening address.
“Today there was no silence on the front; there were combat operations,” said Zelenskyy.
“We recorded all of it, of course. We also see that Russia has no intention of ending this war; we are preparing for new attacks, unfortunately. But there must be peace. We are working toward that — defending Ukraine and Ukraine's independence. Security for our people is the most important thing.”
Trump on May 8 announced a three-day ceasefire
between Ukraine and Russia from May 9–11. He said it would include a halt to
all hostilities and a prisoner exchange of 1,000 people from each side. Both
Zelenskyy and the Kremlin later confirmed the truce.
