Kellogg is part of the U.S. delegation scheduled to attend the Ukraine Recovery Conference in the Italian capital from July 10 to 11.
Interfax-Ukraine news agency later reported that the meeting had concluded, lasting over an hour. The talks come as U.S. President Donald Trump’s stance on the Russo–Ukrainian war grows more erratic: “defensive weapons” shipments to Ukraine resumed days after Washington abruptly cut military aid.
In an earlier Twitter post, Kellogg praised Zelenskyy for continuing to engage with Trump, referring to their July 4 phone call.
“Thanks also to President Zelenskyy for his condolence message on the horrific loss of life in the floods in Texas, especially the young,” Kellogg wrote on July 6.
“Both presidents recognize the pain of the loss of the young in peace and war. Compassion is a key part of leadership.”
On July 8, the Pentagon confirmed it was sending additional “defensive” aid to Ukraine on Trump’s orders. Axios reported that the package includes 10 interceptor missiles for Patriot air defense systems. Washington is also reportedly pressuring Germany to provide Kyiv with another Patriot battery.
