National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) secretary Rustem Umerov’s visit to the United States will focus on trilateral Ukraine–U.S.–Russia talks and seeking mediation for further POW exchanges with Moscow, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on May 7.

“First is the humanitarian track; we hope to carry out a new stage of prisoner releases,” the president said in a Telegram post.

“Second is activation of the diplomatic process. We are in constant communication with the American side and are aware of partners’ contacts with the Russian side.”

He said the Ukrainian delegation is working to bring about a just peace and reliable security guarantees.

“We see that even on ceasefire arrangements the Russian side, unfortunately, is not showing constructive intent,” Zelenskyy added.

“Third, there are several specific security directives for the NSDC secretary regarding our cooperation with the United States. After today’s meetings [in Miami] I expect a detailed report.”

The president also said Kyiv is separately discussing Drone Deals and joint technology projects with European partners intended to strengthen Ukraine’s security.
