U.S. security guarantees for Ukraine are set for a period of 15 years, with the possibility of extension, as stipulated in the relevant documents, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told journalists after the Dec. 28 meeting with his U.S. counterpart Donald Trump.

“I told [Trump] that we are already at war, and it has been going on for almost 15 years. Therefore, we would very much like the guarantees to be longer. I also suggested considering the possibility of 30, 40, or even 50 years. That would be a historic decision by President Trump. He said he would think about it,” Zelenskyy said.

On Dec. 28, Zelenskyy and Trump met in Florida to discuss the parameters of a possible peace plan to end Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. According to the Ukrainian leader, the 20-point peace plan to end the Russian aggression against Ukraine was about 90% complete, while the security guarantees between Kyiv and Washington had already been fully agreed.
