The president made the remarks in his evening address, after a full briefing by the negotiating team returning from talks in Miami.
“Today there was a report from our negotiating team that returned from the United States,” said Zelenskyy.
“There is no real movement yet, unfortunately. Russia does not want movement toward peace. But it is important that we in Ukraine, the United States, the Europeans, and other global actors do everything necessary to make the Russians genuinely and honestly interested in diplomacy, not simply to make more money from oil and buy time for further attacks.”
He said the scale of Russian air strike on Tuesday betrays Moscow’s intent on continuing the war against Ukraine.
“And if you consider that Russia is also helping the Iranian regime carry out strikes across the [Middle East] region, the conclusion is clear: without additional and strong pressure on Russia, without significant Russian losses — even in Moscow — there will be no desire to step back from war and return to peace,” Zelenskyy said.
On March 21–22, a Ukrainian delegation met in Miami with U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. Witkoff called the talks “constructive,” saying, “We have progress in aligning positions and further narrowing the number of unresolved issues.”
An informed source told NV that the talks focused mainly on refining
potential U.S. security guarantees for Ukraine and planning post-war
reconstruction.
