Russia’s planned spring offensive has already failed because it was supposed to be at full force by the start of the season, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during a meeting with journalists on March 14, Liga.net reported.

“The spring (offensive) campaign by the Russians has already failed. Because it was supposed to be at full force at the beginning of spring,” the head of state said.

Zelenskyy added that the situation on the front line has changed. Ukraine had expected spring because of earlier electricity supply problems, but the military was also concerned about warmer weather because it complicates the movement of equipment.

“The spring campaign, as it had been planned, has drowned in this spring — they were unable to advance,” the president said.

Zelenskyy said Russian forces are still conducting offensive actions, but they mostly consist of similar infiltration attempts.

Russian troops cannot break through using armored vehicles because Ukraine’s Defense Forces destroy them, he said.

He added that Russian forces will likely attempt “to do something” in the Zaporizhzhya, Pokrovsk, Huliaipole and Southern sectors. Russian troops are also expected to try to advance again near Kupyansk in Kharkiv Oblast.

A report by the Institute for the Study of War on March 14 said Ukraine’s Defense Forces are strengthening their medium-range strike capabilities, increasing their ability to counter Russian missile attacks, degrade Russia’s air defenses, and disrupt Moscow’s planned offensive operations in spring and summer 2026.
