“We held a special meeting on our next steps. ... We are preparing for important negotiations, though no details can be disclosed publicly at this stage,” Zelenskyy said on Telegram, posting a photo with participants in the meeting.
He added that Ukrainian officials are in contact with representatives of the U.S. president and European partners “almost every day.”
“We reviewed the current status of air defense deliveries and our broader agreements. We identified priorities for the coming weeks: anti-ballistic defense, bilateral agreements on drone production and supply, including the EU's Drone Deal, and preparations for meetings in several formats,” the Ukrainian president said.
Zelenskyy stressed the need to continue prisoner exchanges already agreed upon and said he had instructed officials to engage partners who could help facilitate the process.
The president also announced upcoming decisions to support Ukraine's energy sector.
“We are finalizing the agreements,” he said.
Ukraine-Russia-U.S. peace talks
On May 7, National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov met in the United States with President Donald Trump's special envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. The same day, the Kremlin said trilateral talks would be pointless unless Ukraine withdrew its forces from the Donbas region.
On May 22, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the trilateral negotiations had yielded no results but that Washington was prepared to host another round.
On May 25, Zelenskyy said the United States could decide by the end of the week whether to return to the negotiating process.
On May 29, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said Ukraine has viable proposals for a peace settlement, but that the trilateral format involving the United States is currently “on pause.” According to him, the format has “reached the limits of its effectiveness,” making a leaders-level meeting necessary.
