President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke by phone with U.S. special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, Zelenskyy said on June 8, calling the conversation “very positive.”

Zelenskyy thanked the two for their readiness to work in the coming weeks to support diplomatic efforts to end the Russo–Ukrainian war. He said Ukraine and the United States share the goal of peace in Europe, even as global attention focuses on events around Iran.

The call touched on prospects linked to the G7 summit and other June events, and the participants exchanged information on the mood in Moscow.

On April 14, Zelenskyy said Witkoff and Kushner planned to visit Ukraine; on May 8 he said he expected their visit “on the turn of spring and summer.”

On May 7, Secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov met with Trump’s envoys in the United States. The Kremlin that day said three-way talks would be pointless until Ukraine withdraws forces from Donbas.

On May 20, Kremlin official Kirill Dmitriev said Witkoff was expected to visit Moscow but provided no details.

After several trilateral Ukraine–U.S.–Russia meetings in 2025–26, the talks were put on hold as Washington became preoccupied with the Iran war.
