He once again thanked the U.S. leader for granting Kyiv licenses to manufacture the surface-to-air missiles.
During the meeting, Zelenskyy also offered condolences to Trump over the death of Sen. Lindsey Graham, calling him a true friend of Ukraine.
The two leaders discussed joint venture to produce Patriot interceptors and other initiatives that could strengthen Ukraine’s defensive capabilities.
“We also talked about diplomacy — it’s important to revive the diplomatic process,” the Ukrainian president added.
“Our teams will coordinate the details of their further communications. I am grateful to the United States for its strong support.”
Zelensky left the White House at 5:52 p.m. Kyiv time. The meeting with Trump lasted about an hour.
At 6 p.m. Kyiv time, Zelensky was scheduled to meet Finland’s President Alexander Stubb. At 7:30 p.m. Kyiv time, he planned to attend a national farewell ceremony for Sen. Graham.
Another meeting was set for 1 a.m. Kyiv time, when Zelensky
was to hold talks with senators, including co-authors of the sanctions bill co-sponsored
by Graham, and other members of Congress.
