As described by Zelenskyy in a subsequent Telegrams post,
the leaders discussed the ratification, situation on the battlefield in
Ukraine, and the need for further steps to end the war.
“I had a good conversation with President Trump: we congratulated our peoples on VE Day—the victory over Nazism,” the Ukrainian president wrote.
“We also welcomed the Verkhovna Rada’s ratification of the economic partnership agreement—a truly historic document that opens many new opportunities for cooperation.”
Zelenskyy said the presidents also discussed the need for additional efforts to achieve peace, including specific measures to be taken. The Ukrainian leader confirmed Ukraine’s readiness to enact a 30‑day ceasefire.
“Ukraine is ready for a 30‑day ceasefire to begin at any time,” the president said.
“We expect Russia to agree to this proposal. I also confirmed that Ukraine is ready for negotiations in any format. However, for that to happen, Russia must show the seriousness of its intent to end the war by starting with a full and unconditional ceasefire.”
According to Zelenskyy, Trump reaffirmed his desire to help end the war, supported the idea of a ceasefire, and promised to provide assistance to that end.
