Zelenskyy made the remarks in an interview with UK
journalist Piers
Morgan, during a visit to London.
“We are losing a strong partner; this is my opinion,”
Zelenskyy said.
“You are losing America?” Morgan asked.
“Yes, but not because of us,” the president replied.
“We simply are not selling our country. Listen, for us this
is not business. This is our life, our country — this is our body, our home,
our children, and this is very important to us. That is why this is so painful.”
Zelenskyy said Ukraine supports the U.S. president’s stated desire
to take a middle position between Moscow and Kyiv but believes it is important
to maintain that position rather than move to the wrong side.
“I think his advisers are mistaken; I don’t know who exactly
is putting pressure on him, but this is not the right side — this is not the
right side of history,” the president said.
On Oct. 9, President Donald Trump announced a deal to
lift sanctions from transactions involving Russian diesel fuel worldwide,
saying the increased supply would lower consumer prices. He also threatened to
cut off Ukraine from U.S. intelligence if Kyiv continues attacks on Russian oil
refineries.
