The cooperation is almost certain to focus on Kyiv sharing its expertise in countering swarms of cheap Shahed drones. On March 2, Bloomberg reported that Qatar’s stocks of anti-air missiles were projected to last only four days at current depletion rates.
“We discussed how the situation is unfolding in the Middle East and the Gulf region,” Zelenskyy wrote in a Telegram post.
“The Iranian regime is trying to drag the whole region into war and is destroying lives. That can only be condemned. We stand with all who protect life and who are trying, as quickly as possible, to force the Iranian regime to end its yearslong violence.”
Both sides exchanged views on prospects for the situation and agreed to further contacts to define ways to protect Qatari civilians against military threats, the president added.
Earlier the same day, Israeli channel N12 reported that
Qatar struck targets in Iran in the past day in retaliation for Iranian missile
and drone attacks. A spokesman for Qatar’s foreign ministry said Qatar
prevented an attack on Hamad International Airport in Doha.
