EU leaders debating granting Ukraine $55 billion – report

Union countries are expected to approve the European Commission's proposal
for a EUR 50 billion ($55 billion) funding package for Ukraine, EU Commissioner
Valdis Dombrovskis told Bloomberg on June 22.
Earlier this week, the European Commission proposed a financial plan for 2027 that encompasses grants, loans, and guarantees to meet some of Ukraine's existing costs and finance vital reconstruction projects as the country continues to resist the Russian invasion.
"We expect support for the package," said Dombrovskis.
"Of course there is going to be discussions with member states, this may bring some adjustments."
The funds will be disbursed under the condition that Ukraine undertakes reforms to enhance the rule of law and combat corruption. By the end of 2023, EU leaders will determine whether to begin negotiations on Ukraine's request to join the Union.
Earlier on June 22, the European Commission has already supplied Ukraine with EUR 1.5 billion in macro-financial assistance.
