Ukrainian professional boxer Vasyl Lomachenko has revealed in the Top Rank Boxing documentary Battle Lines: Lomachenko, which was released on Oct. 23, about why he left his native country during war and decided to fight against Jamaine Ortiz, an undefeated American.
"When the situation in Ukraine began to change, I realized that I could not help here, that I was not needed here, because things got much better,” the two-time Olympic champion said.
“Now I have a great motivation. It is greater than before the fight with Teofimo Lopez. I believe that if God granted me another chance, I will use it.”
The Ukrainian also said that in case of his victory over Ortiz, he may stand a chance to fight for the title of the absolute world champion again.
The 34-year-old Lomachenko has fought 18 fights on the professional ring, bagged 16 victories and suffered two defeats.
The 26-year-old Ortiz has 17 fights under his belt. He also boasts 16 victories, and one fight with his participation ended in a tie.
Lomachenko held his last fight in December 2021, when he won a unanimous victory over Ghanaian professional boxer Richard Commey.
