Residents report shaking furniture as 4.8-magnitude earthquake strikes Crimea

A magnitude 4.8 earthquake was recorded in temporarily Russian-occupied Crimea, with the epicenter at a depth of 10 kilometers, European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported on Feb. 2.
The epicenter was located 78 kilometers from the occupied city of Kerch and 35 kilometers northwest of the occupied town of Shchyolkine.
The Telegram channel Crimean Wind reported that residents of Shchyolkine felt strong tremors.
Social media users said furniture shook inside their apartments.
“Building 48 — it jolted hard. The interior wall was visibly swaying, the wall lamp was rattling. The cat got scared. Third floor,” residents wrote.
“The chandelier is still swaying.”
“Wardrobes, beds, sofas were shaking — terrifying.”
On Dec. 7, 2025, a powerful magnitude 7 earthquake struck the U.S. state of Alaska. The tremors were recorded near the border between Alaska and Canada’s Yukon Territory.
The earthquake reportedly triggered a series of aftershocks, including several with magnitudes exceeding 5.
