Two-time Olympic gold medalist boxer Vasiliy Lomachenko was pictured alongside Russia’s Islam Makhachev, the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) lightweight champion, during the UFC 285 MMA event that took place in Las Vegas on March 4.
A video posted by the UFC showed a smiling Lomachenko, one of Ukraine’s most successful and famous athletes, hugging and taking a photo with Makhachev.
The latter is known for his friendship with the Kremlin-imposed leader of the Chechen Republic, Ramzan Kadyrov, and for his support of Russia’s full-scale war in Ukraine.
Previously, Lomachenko posted on Instagram a video of an anti-Ukrainian sermon by Metropolitan Longin, a bishop of the Moscow Patriarchate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
Former Ukrainian tennis player Serhiy Stakhovsky posted a screenshot of Lomachenko's post on his Instagram stories with a comment that it would be better for the boxer to keep away from him.
