Ukraine wins silver in freestyle skiing
Ukrainian athlete Oleksandr Abramenko has won a silver medal for freestyle skiing at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.
Abramenko’s best qualification attempt saw him score 123.53 points, propelling him to fifth place in the final placements.
Oleksandr Okipniuk, another Ukrainian competing in the same discipline, placed ninth.
Abramenko’s finals performance had a minor imperfection, causing him to score 12 fewer points compared to his outing during the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, where he won gold.
Despite that, the athlete managed to gain a result second only to Qi Guangpu from China.
Abramenko is now one of the most successful Ukrainian winter Olympians, eclipsing Vita Semerenko, who won gold and bronze medals during the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.
Earlier, Ukrainian athletes finished seventh in the biathlon race, despite taking a penalty lap during the relay section of the race.
