Ukraine’s foil fencers claim first-ever World Cup Silver

Ukrainian foil fencers earned silver medals at the first stage of Senior Team Women's Foil at the FIE Fencing World Cup in Tunisia, marking a historic achievement for Ukraine.

The Ukrainian team consisted of Dariia Myroniuk, Alina Poloziuk, Olha Sopit, and Kateryna Budenko.

In the round of 16, the team defeated Hungary (45-38). They then triumphed over Italy in the quarterfinals (45-43) - a team ranked as world leaders and silver medalists at the Paris Olympics.

In the semifinals, Ukraine overcame France (41-39) to secure a spot in the final, where they narrowly lost to Japan (22-24), the bronze medalists of the 2024 Olympics.

This marks the first silver medal for Ukrainian foil fencers at the World Cup. Earlier this spring, they earned bronze in Hong Kong.
