U.S. Senate passes $60 billion aid bill for UA, Biden to sign bill 'immediately'
The US Senate passed a foreign aid bill providing almost $61 billion in assistance to Ukraine on April 23, before sending it to President Joe Biden for his final signature.
The US Senate passed a foreign aid bill providing almost $61 billion in assistance to Ukraine on April 23, before sending it to President Joe Biden for his final signature.
The bill also includes $34 billion in military aid to Israel and Taiwan.
Biden is expected to sign the bill immediately to "begin sending weapons and equipment to Ukraine this week", the
White House said in its statement.
Foreign Aid Bill
The U.S. House of Representatives voted on April 20 to allocate $60 billion to Ukraine through Bill No. 8035. The bill received support from 311 congressmen, with 112 voting against and one abstention.
Including aid packages for Israel and Indo-Pacific partners, the bill totaled $95 billion in aid.
Ukraine's share is $61 billion, with $14 billion earmarked for the purchase of military equipment. Nearly $35 billion is set aside for replenishing U.S. military stocks and funding ongoing American commitments in Europe.
The bill also obliges U.S. President Joe Biden to provide Ukraine with
ATACMS ballistic missiles, which Ukrainian officials have said would increase Ukraine's strike range capabilities.
The United States could send a new aid package to Ukraine by the end of the week, Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Mark Warner said on April 21.
