Almost half of Hungarians oppose any EU aid to Ukraine - survey
Nearly half of Hungary’s citizens believe that the European Union should not support Ukraine in any way, Hungary's 24.hu reported on May 30.
The same poll says that one in three Hungarians would support EU aid through financial, economic, and humanitarian means.
Just 16% of Hungarians support sending weapons and military equipment to Ukraine, according to the survey conducted by Závecz Research.
More women (54%) oppose EU aid to Ukraine than men (38%).
Hungary blocked the approval of the draft negotiation framework for Ukraine's accession to the European Union at a meeting of EU ambassadors, it was reported on May 29.
Hungary cited the alleged violation of minority rights in Ukraine to justify its opposition.
EU leaders are planning to give Hungary a lower position in the next European Commission (EC) due to Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's close ties with Russia and Belarus, and his stance on Ukraine, Politico reported, citing three diplomats on May 30.
