Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had stopped commenting on unpopular issues related to mobilization, political analyst Ihor Reiterovych said in an interview with NV Radio on Oct. 26.

Commenting on changes to the draft deferment system introduced by the Cabinet of Ministers, Reiterovych said they could have been “far better.” He added that responsibility for the changes rests not only with Prime Minister Sergii Koretskyi but also with Zelenskyy, the commander in chief.

“Responsibility does not rest only with him [Koretskyi],” the analyst said.

“It rests with many other people, including the commander in chief [Zelenskyy], who, once again, has stopped commenting on any unpopular issues related to mobilization, deferments, unauthorized absences without leave, or other similar matters.”

On Oct. 16, Koretskyi said the government was reviewing the deferment system because of “widespread abuses” and assured that there would be no radical changes for defense and energy companies.

On Oct. 23, Koretskyi said the government had finalized the changes, calling them difficult but necessary. He said an enterprise’s critical status would no longer depend on its economic indicators. Critical status would be granted to industries that genuinely contribute to defense and the economy, including the defense industry, energy, communications, logistics and utilities.

The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.

Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.

For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
