Russian Defense Ministry confirms three deaths after explosion at Engels airfield

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation confirmed that an explosion occurred at the Engels military airbase near the city of Saratov on the night of Dec. 26.
The blast caused a 120 meter wide fire to spread, authorities reported.
The Russian defense ministry claims that the explosion was due to the fall of the debris of a downed “Ukrainian drone”, Russian propaganda outlet RIA Novosti wrote. The MoD also confirmed earlier reports about the death of three Russian soldiers who were at the airfield.
However, it claims that no aircraft were damaged by the blast.
On the night of Dec. 26, a powerful explosion rocked the Engels military airfield in Saratov Oblast. After that, there was a fire about 120 square meters wide.
