Blast at Kyiv forensic center caused by explosive object, SBI says

A blast at Kyiv’s State Scientific Research Forensic Center on Aug. 19 was caused by an explosive object that was undergoing examination, the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) reported on Aug. 21.

The incident killed four employees and damaged the facade of the main building, cars and adjacent facilities, the agency said.

SBI officers examined the scene, ordered expert examinations, and questioned employees and witnesses. The investigation continues.

Criminal proceedings have been initiated for violating the rules of handling explosive, flammable and corrosive substances or radioactive materials that caused the death of people or other serious consequences.
