Ukrainian border guards repel Russian subversive group in Sumy Oblast: enemy retreats

Border guards in Sumy Oblast engaged in gunfire with a Russian reconnaissance and sabotage group (RSG) on April 1, as the intruders attempted to infiltrate the oblast, resulting in the forced retreat of the Russians, the Ukrainian State Border Guard Service reported.

Ukraine mobilized reserves from the State Border Guard Service, National Guard, and Armed Forces to repel the attack. Artillery units were also deployed.

Russian forces shelled populated areas in Sumy Oblast 158 times, damaging three homes, an administrative building, an extracurricular education facility, and a lyceum over the past day, police reported.

Russian RSG attacks in Sumy Oblast

Russian reconnaissance sabotage groups (RSGs) trying to cross the border consist of 10-12 well-trained individuals. These RSGs are officer groups from Russia's Special Operations Forces and the Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU) under the Russian General Staff, former Commander of the Joint Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Serhiy Nayev, earlier said.

Russian forces had intensified their reconnaissance and sabotage operations in Sumy and Kharkiv Oblasts, Ukrainian State Border Guard Service reported in December 2023.
