Canada is considering several bilateral agreements with Ukraine to jointly produce military equipment, Canadian Defense Minister David McGuinty said in an interview with The Canadian Press on June 27.

Canadian Defence Minister McGuinty said the government is considering entering into a new agreement to jointly produce military equipment with Ukraine, following the example of several European countries.

The Department of National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces are "actively considering" the proposal, McGuinty added.

At the NATO summit in The Hague this week, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney also announced a significant increase in defense spending. He noted that Canada and the European Union would begin negotiations on a new partnership focused on security and defense procurement.

On June 18, Carney unveiled a C$2 billion (about $1.47 billion) military aid package for Ukraine. Canada also imposed sanctions on 44 Russian individuals, including the ex-wife and nephew of Vladimir Putin.
