Russia has lost around five times more soldiers in the war because of the particularly heavy fighting in and around Kyiv Oblast at the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the head of the country’s national security council said on Aug. 22.

Anyone related to military affairs can tell that the attacking side loses much more, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleksiy Danilov said on Ukrainian television’s 24 channel.

“I can remind you that starting from Feb. 24, we killed them by the dozens,” Danilov said.

“Especially near Kyiv and in our other oblasts.”

Danilov said that there are no families left in Russia who “didn’t hear of someone who was killed or injured in Ukraine.”

“The five to one death ratio is absolutely trustworthy, numbers that you can rely on and know are true,” Danilov said.

Earlier, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valerii Zaluzhnyi said that about 9,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed in the war with Russia since Feb. 24.

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the aggressor country has lost 45,000 personnel.
