Russian authorities temporarily closed traffic out of
Yaroslavl toward Moscow after drones attacked Russia’s Yaroslavl Oblast
overnight into May 25, regional Gov. Mikhail Yevrayev said.
“Traffic has been blocked at the exit from Yaroslavl toward
Moscow, from the intersection of Moskovsky Avenue and the Southwestern Ring
Road, to ensure safety,” he said.
Yevrayev also said air defenses were active.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on May 22 that Ukraine’s
Defense Forces had used drones to strike an oil refinery in Yaroslavl.
He said he had received a report from Commander-in-Chief
Oleksandr Syrskyi on the use of long-range drones against Russian oil refining
and export facilities.
“We are bringing the war back home, to Russia, and that is
entirely fair,” Zelenskyy said.
The General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces confirmed on May
19 that the Yaroslavl-3 oil pumping station had been hit near the Russian
settlement of Semibratovo. Four oil tanks with a combined capacity of 140,000
cubic meters were damaged, the military said.
