Russian strike drone hit a four-story commercial building in Kyiv, killing two people, Kyiv State Administration reported on Oct. 8.

By 12:18 p.m., emergency firefighting crews localized the blaze within the heavily damaged structure. Search-and-rescue teams recovered the bodies of two deceased victims and extracted two wounded survivors from the wreckage.

Russian forces unleashed continuous waves of high-speed, jet-powered strike drones against the capital beginning on Oct. 8 morning, with air-raid alerts persisting into the afternoon. Earlier in the day, falling debris from an intercepted drone in Holosiivskyi District killed one civilian. Since midnight, Russian drone strikes have wounded 11 Kyiv residents, nine of whom were hospitalized with acute blast trauma and burns.

Kyivvodokanal earlier reported an acute loss of water pressure across municipal distribution networks in four major administrative districts: Holosiivskyi, Sviatoshynskyi, Solomyanskyi, and Shevchenkivskyi. The utility explained that severe grid voltage drops cut electrical power to key pumping stations, noting that normal pressure will only return once municipal power feeds stabilize.

Private energy operator DTEK introduced immediate emergency power shutoffs across Kyiv and surrounding areas, warning that pre-published scheduled outage timetables are suspended until further notice.

Under direct orders from national power grid operator Ukrenergo, emergency power cuts were expanded across Kyiv Oblast, specifically impacting Brovary, Bucha, Vyshhorod, and Boryspil districts to prevent cascading system-wide collapse.

The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.

Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.

For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
