Belgorod UAV research university ablaze following overnight drone attack - video

A fire broke out at Belgorod State Technological University following a drone attack, Russian media outlet Astra reported, citing local Telegram channels, overnight on Aug. 3.
The university was involved in the development and testing of drones. Specifically, the institution designed an automated drone control system based on the Milandr microprocessor.
However, university officials claimed that the development was intended for civilian purposes, such as monitoring power lines, heating networks, and aerial photography.
In the summer of 2026, the university announced enrollment for summer youth courses focused on drone development, Astra reported.
Russian authorities have not yet reported on the consequences of the attack. However, throughout the night, the operational headquarters of Belgorod Oblast issued multiple warnings regarding the threat of drone attacks.
Overnight on July 25, Russian Belgorod came under a massive drone attack, triggering fires across logistics warehouses and energy infrastructure facilities.
Smoke was reported near an electrical substation on the territory of the Promin Combined Heat and Power Plant. Russian sources also reported a probable strike on the Pivdenna substation, where a fire broke out accompanied by heavy smoke following the attack.
