Duda comments on possible Russian missile crashed in Poland
The object
discovered near the Polish city of Bydgoszcz was likely a crashed cruise
missile, which did not pose a serious threat to Poland's security, Polish
President Andrzej Duda said on May 11.
"There is a lot of evidence that this could have been a crashed missile," Duda said in a comment to Polskie Radio.
He added that the incident was not a serious threat to Poland's security.
"There was no explosion, no explosive charge, in fact it did not pose any serious threat to the security of the Republic of Poland, and that is the most important thing for me as president," said the president.
On April 27, Polish authorities announced that debris of an unknown military aircraft had been found in a forest in the northern part of the country.
The Technical Institute of the Polish Air Force said that debris from a previously identified Russian X-55 cruise missile had been found near the city of Bydgoszcz.
According to Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak, the object is indeed a Russian missile that crashed in Polish territory on December 16, 2022.
On that day, Moscow launched a barrage of cruise missile at targets across Ukraine, using Su-34 bombers stationed in Belarus. As RMF24 reports, the Polish military was tracking the object, until it disappeared from radars near Bydgoszcz.
