Hundreds of firefighters struggle to contain massive Carpathian wildfire

Firefighters and forestry workers continue to extinguish a forest fire in the Verkhnii Volovets forestry in the Mukachevo district of Zakarpattya Oblast, State Emergency Service (SES) reported on May 6.
The fire covers an area of approximately 75 hectares, rescuers reported.
A total of 243 people and 46 pieces of equipment have been deployed to fight the blaze, including 138 rescuers and 36 pieces of equipment from SES. Emergency workers from Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk oblasts were called in to assist the Zakarpattya rescuers.
Furthermore, the deployment of SES aviation is planned. Additionally, 105 employees from the Carpathian branch of the Forests of Ukraine state enterprise and 10 pieces of equipment, including a tanker truck, six fire modules, and three other pieces of machinery, have joined the firefighting efforts.
Operations to eliminate the fire are ongoing, the SES stressed.
