Enemy counterattacks in Kherson fail, offensive in Severodonetsk stalls – Ukraine’s General Staff

Russian invaders attempted to regain lost positions in Kherson Oblast, but suffered significant losses and retreated, reads the latest update from Ukraine’s General Staff.

The enemy continues to launch missile and air strikes against military and civilian infrastructure facilities in Ukraine, in particular, in Kyiv, the report for June 5 as of 6.00 a.m. says.

In the Volyn and Polissia areas, the threat of missile and air strikes from the territory of Belarus remains. The deadlines for checking the combat readiness of Belarusian armed forces units have been extended until June 11, Ukraine’s General Staff said.

As part of these activities, a control-tactical exercise was conducted in Brest Oblast of Belarus with units of a Belarusian army special operations brigade. The Belarusian soldiers practiced urban warfare and river crossing.

In the Siverskyi area, the enemy shelled infrastructure facilities around the settlements of Starykove and Katerynivka in Sumy Oblast, as well as near the settlement of Kamianska Sloboda in Chernihiv Oblast. Attempting to establish the location of the positions of Ukrainian forces, the enemy conducted aerial reconnaissance with UAVs in certain areas of Sumy and Chernihiv Oblasts.

In the Kharkiv area, enemy units continue to focus their main efforts on holding their positions and preventing further advances by the Ukrainian military to the state border. The enemy has not stopped firing on the positions of Ukrainian forces near the city of Kharkiv. The Russian invaders used phosphate munitions in the settlement of Cherkaski Tyshky.

In the Sloviansk area, the enemy completed the redeployment of troops. Certain units are advancing in the Dovhenke – Dolyna and Brazhkivka – Virnopillia directions.

In the Donetsk area, the main efforts of Russian invasion forces are focused on offensive operations to encircle Ukrainian forces in the areas of Severodonetsk and Lysychansk, and to block the main military supply routes.

In the Lyman area, the enemy is advancing in the direction of Sviatohirsk, trying to push the Ukrainian military across to the right bank of the Siverskyi Donets River.

In the Severodonetsk area, the invaders, with the support of artillery, are conducting assault operations in the city of Severodonetsk, and control the eastern part of the city. In addition, in order to capture the dominant heights, the enemy is trying to launch an offensive in the direction of Nyrkove – Mykolaivka.

In the Bakhmut area, the enemy redeployed more than 20 units of weapons and military equipment to replenish depleted units.

In the Avdiivka, Kurakhiv, Novopavlivske and Zaporizhzhia areas, the invaders are firing at the front line of defense and the rear areas of the Ukrainian military in order to restrain units and prevent their redeployment.

In the Southern Bug direction, in anticipation of an offensive by Ukrainian forces in a certain area, the enemy laid mines along the banks of the Inhulets River.

In the Mykolaiv area, the enemy deployed two rocket batteries and two artillery batteries. The Russians also tried to recapture the lost positions in the area of Sukhyi Stavok and Lozove. However, enemy forces suffered heavy losses and retreated.

Five Kalibr sea-based cruise missiles have been supplied for launch from vessels in the Black Sea, Ukraine’s General Staff said.
