Power outages may last until 8:00 p.m. - Ukraine's energy company

28 November 2024, 01:15 PM

Emergency power outages are being implemented nationwide at least up to 8:00 p.m. following a large-scale Russian attack targeting Ukraine's energy infrastructure, YASNO energy company CEO Serhii Kovalenko wrote on Nov. 28.

"The situation in the energy system is strained," he wrote.

However, he noted this is only an estimate and urged patience, as scheduled power cut schedules are not in effect.

Russia launched a barrage of missiles and drones on Nov. 28, including Kalibr and Kh-101 missiles, severely damaging energy facilities and prompting nationwide blackouts. Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko confirmed that the attacks targeted both energy generation and transmission infrastructure across the country.

This latest assault comes less than two weeks after another significant Russian attack on Nov. 17, where 120 missiles and 90 drones were used to strike Ukraine's power grid, marking one of the largest attacks since August 2024.
