An explosion destroyed the gunpowder workshop at the Elastik factory in Russia’s Ryazan Oblast, Russian state media reported on Aug. 15.

They reported a fire broke out at the plant, leaving at least five dead and about 20 injured.

Russian media have not reported the cause of the explosion. Around 100 people were evacuated from the facility.

The plant is located in the Shilovsky District of Russia’s Ryazan Oblast. In October 2021, an explosion at a workshop of the private explosives manufacturer Rozryad killed 17 people, according to the Telegram channel Astra.

Media reports indicate the plant produces industrial explosives, including those made from demilitarized munitions.
