Explosions were reported overnight in Russia, the Khanskaya military airfield near the city of Maykop (Republic of Adygea) may have been targeted, Telegram channels wrote on Dec. 28.
Unidentified drones began attacking Maykop shortly after 11 p.m. Local пабліки later clarified that the apparent target may have been the Khanskaya airfield - a Russian military base located near the city. Videos circulated online allegedly capturing the sound of explosions in the area.
Around the same time, another video surfaced on social media showing the sound of a drone in flight followed by an explosion. The footage was said to have been recorded somewhere in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai, though the exact location has not been confirmed.
At around 3 a.m., the Russian Telegram channel SHOT reported a series of explosions in the city of Tula. Local residents said a missile alert had been declared in the area and claimed they heard up to 14 explosions.
Some Telegram channels speculated that a ballistic missile may have been intercepted, though it remains unclear whether a missile was heading toward Tula or whether the explosions were linked to a launch from within Russian territory.
As of publication, Russian authorities had issued no official comments on the reported incidents. There is also no confirmed information about damage or casualties.
