A Russian strike hit a garage cooperative in Kyiv’s Darnytskyi district on October 7, igniting a blaze that killed two people, Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klitschko reported.

Firefighters managed to pull two people alive from the fire.

Klitschko had earlier reported that falling debris triggered an outdoor fire in the Darnytskyi district.

Russian ballistic missiles pounded Kyiv overnight, with strikes and falling debris impacting the city’s Podilskyi, Obolonskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, and Darnytskyi districts.

Kyiv's public transit network faced widespread disruptions following the overnight strikes. Ukrainian Railways warned that commuter trains may be delayed, while city transit authorities rerouted multiple buses.

“The enemy is clearly preparing to strike,” former head of Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation Andriy Kovalenko said on October 6. “Putin still believes he can break Ukrainians by cutting off their electricity and heat.”

Ukrainian air-monitoring channel eRadar reported that Russia was preparing to launch a large-scale aerial barrage, warning the attack could launch as early as October 7.

The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.

Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.

For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
