Ukrainian military managed to strike a modernized Russian Mi-28 attack helicopter with an anti-aircraft FPV drone, the 115th Brigade reported on Oct. 14.
The military publishing combat footage of the successful interception.
"The anti-aircraft FPV drone intercepted the aircraft directly in the air, leaving no chance for either the equipment or the crew," the brigade stated in an official announcement accompanying the video.
Military expert Oleksiy Melnyk earlier highlighted in an interview with NV that the Mi-28 represents one of the most severe rotary-wing threats to Ukrainian ground operations.
"The Mi-28 has proven markedly more effective during night operations," he said.
This helicopter features an advanced integrated avionics suite, while flight crews are equipped with helmet-mounted night vision targeting systems. Because of these low-light combat capabilities, this modern variant is designated by Russian forces as the "Night Hunter" (Nochnoy Okhotnik in Russian). Its capability to operate at low altitude in darkness significantly reduces the visual detection window for Ukrainian frontline mobile air defense units, making dedicated drone intercepts critical to neutralizing Russian tactical air dominance.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.
For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
