The G7 leaders will not attempt to reach an agreement on a joint communiqué at the June 15-17 summit in Kananaskis, Canada, due to U.S. President Donald Trump's position on the war in Ukraine and climate change, Bloomberg reported on June 12, citing people familiar with the matter.

There is broad acknowledgment of the wide gulf separating the U.S. from the other members.

Instead of a single document, the leaders are likely to release standalone joint statements on various topics.

Although the communiqué is not legally binding, it demonstrates the participants' general principles and unity on important global issues. Last year's 36-page document included commitments to support Ukraine in its war against Russian aggression, fight climate change, and promote gender equality.

President Trump's contrasting views on these matters have caused disagreements with the other G7 leaders.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney aims to avoid a repeat of the 2018 summit, when Trump withdrew his support for the joint communiqué a few hours after it was signed in response to comments that irritated him from then-Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Next week's discussions will cover trade, artificial intelligence (AI), energy security, forest fires, and global conflicts, including those in Ukraine and the Middle East.

Earlier, Zelenskyy confirmed that Carney had invited him to attend the 51st G7 summit.

The G7 summit brings together leaders from the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, and Canada to discuss global issues and coordinate international policy.
